BACKWOODS Distilling Co. is a craft distillery located in Yackandandah.

Established by Bree and Leigh Attwood in 2017, the distillery produces handcrafted batches of single malt and rye whisky, alongside a range of gins that highlight native botanicals.

With their first whiskies released in 2020, Backwoods have already picked up several prestigious awards, collecting medals at the World Whiskies, London Spirits, and Australian Distilled Spirits Awards.

With an ethos of using 100% Australian grains, local casks and native botanicals, Backwoods is proving to be one of Australia's best small producers of local, artisan spirits.

Visitors to the distillery door in Yackandandah can see the full production area on display, including the magnificent copper stills, while sipping on a whisky or gin in the cosy tasting room.

Seasonal releases (including the popular Muscat Gin collaboration with Scion Wine of Rutherglen) and limited–edition whisky bottlings are often only available from the distillery door.

Being able to pick up limited editions to make your friends jealous just gives you another reason to head to Yackandandah for a visit this spring and beyond.
