Dederang Cup preparation in full swing

THE Dederang Picnic Race Club's biggest day on the calendar is fast approaching with this year's Dederang Cup set to be run on February 25.

The 2023 edition of Dederang's great race is once again expecting a bumper crowd of more than 2000 keen spectators and president of the club Marcus Goonan couldn't be more excited for the day.

"Preparation is in full swing," Goonan said.

"We're starting working bees on February 4 and the following Saturday and ticket sales are also online for anyone wanting to purchase early.

"We're almost sold out of our marquee and corporate packages – there's a few left online so I encourage everyone to jump on and purchase those.

"Tickets will also be available on the gate now that we're past the COVID–19 days of having to pre purchase everything online."

Plenty of entertainment aside from the racing will be on show throughout the day with 'Me and the Girl' to play live music, while kids face painting, games on the grass and tug of war will also be on offer.

The annual Dederang Mile Footrace will also be run with $250 worth of prizemoney up for grabs for the men and ladies, while $50 will be on offer for the kids.

Fashions on the Field will also be a large part of the race day with $7000 worth of prizes to be won there.

"We've booked in Me and the Girl again for the live music, they did a great job last year and played well past 6:30pm," Goonan said.

"Everyone loved them last year and had a great time dancing around after the races.

"We pushed over 2000 with the crowd last year and that was a record so hopefully we can do that again."

Gates will open from 11am with food trucks and bar facilities avaialble, while BYO will also be allowed for patrons.

The event is being held at the Dederang Recreation Reserve on Kiewa Valley Highway.
