Adventurer to share his epic trip at Backcountry Festival

WELL known adventurer Huw Kingston will entertain and inspire at the closing event of the 2023 Backcountry Festival at Mt Hotham's Last Run Bar on Sunday, September 3.

Huw will talk about his Alpine Odyssey last winter, a 50 day journey skiing and walking the 700km length of the Australian Alps, skiing the dozen snow resorts en route, which raised $65,000 for Our Yarning, an Indigenous literacy project.

During his journey last season, Huw stopped off at Hotham, Dinner Plain and Falls Creek to ski some runs and enjoy some fine alpine hospitality.

“I popped out onto the Great Alpine Road, a week after my last hot shower and soft bed at Mt Buller, and enjoyed a few days at Hotham, timing it well on a powder day,” he said.

“Then, after skiing across the High Plains, I luxuriated in the hospitality of the Astra Hotel at Falls Creek who had thrown their weight behind my fundraising with specially created Alpine Odyssey cocktails and more.

“I even managed to race in the Kangaroo Hoppet when in Falls Creek, finally knocking that off my bucket list of the past 30 years.

“I’m very much looking forward to being back in the Victorian resorts in September closing off the Backcountry Festival at Hotham.”

Huw is a multi-award winning adventurer, environmentalist and writer and is an ambassador for Save the Children, Protect Our Winters and the Adventure Travel Trade Association.

He has a history of long, human powered journeys including pioneering long ski traverses in the Himalaya, and has cherished our alpine country for decades, having first skied the length of the alps over 25 years ago.
