Upgraded bus service for Hotham - Dinner Plain

Travelling between Mt Hotham and Dinner Plain will be much easier for winter 2023 with Mt Hotham Resort Management announcing the upgrade and expansion of the bus service connecting the two areas.

This collaborative agreement with Alpine Shire Council and Vail Resorts Australia will provide a critical transport link for local residents, visitors, and Mt Hotham staff.

Improved service levels for Dinner Plain guests

The Hotham – Dinner Plain bus service will provide an increase in service frequency and longer operating hours, catering to the needs of visitors who want more time to enjoy the mountain, even after the runs close. Moreover, it will provide a safe and convenient means for Dinner Plain-based staff to commute between the resort and the Dinner Plain village.

Services will run hourly from Dinner Plain between 7am and 10pm, every day of the 2023 winter season.

Pricing will be $20 per adult and $12 per child for a return trip including the resort entry fee.

The service will be provided at no cost for Mt Hotham staff.

Local operator with extensive alpine experience

Lyndsey Jackman, Chief Operating Officer of Mt Hotham Resort Management confirmed the bus service has been contracted to local firm 4SITE as an extension to the recently awarded three-year contract for the Mt Hotham winter village bus service.

“4SITE currently manages several ongoing operational contracts at Mt Hotham, Mt Buller, and Falls Creek and is an organisation with a deep understanding of the Alpine regions of Victoria”, said Mr Jackman.

4SITE Managing Director Rob McDonald added, “We are now able to ensure a seamless integration of bus services and a consistent experience for all passengers.”

Nathan Butterworth, General Manager of Vail Resort’s Hotham operation commented, "We are pleased to announce this partnership ahead of the 2023 snow season. Guests and staff staying in Dinner Plain can now enjoy a convenient and reliable service to Mt Hotham and make the most of everything the resort has to offer, from opening weekend onwards.”

Alpine Shire Council Mayor John Forsyth expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, "I am delighted to share the news of the enhanced bus service for the 2023 winter season. This collaborative approach between Mt Hotham Resort Management, Alpine Shire Council and Vail Resorts Australia will undoubtedly augment the overall customer experience for both Dinner Plain and Mt Hotham communities and staff."

Mayor Forsyth added, "We anticipate further opportunities to collaborate with Mt Hotham Resort Management, with the ultimate goal of elevating the customer experience we offer to our communities and visitors alike. We are eagerly looking forward to the opening weekend and the start of the 2023 snow season."

Mr Jackman thanked all partners for the co-operative approach to negotiations that has resulted in a positive outcome for guests, locals and staff alike.
