Make space in May for La Fiera

MYRTLEFORD'S fantastic La Fiera festival which runs from 16-18 May, celebrates all things Italian with laughter, dance, authentic Italian food, wines and lots of fun.

The opening act to launch this year's festival features comedian James Liotta and his show 'Mamma's Still Not Happy' on Friday night at the EMPAC theatre.

Special guest Elise Pulbrook will be there on the night creating Italian inspired canapes incorporating local produce from the stalls at Il Mercato.

Mr Liotta will also be part of 'La Festa' on Saturday as MC.

La Fiera spokesman, John Constenaro said the event is currently in its final stages of planning.

"La Fiera is primarily a community-based event: one of the last truly authentic Italian festivals in the country," he said.

"The vast majority of the authentic fare on the weekend will be made by northern and southern regional Italian groups."

Saturday will be the focal point of La Fiera - 'La Festa'.

The day is sure to bring in the crowds with performances, food and wine from local producers and a great day out for everyone.

On Sunday, attendees will be able to drop into 'Il Mercato' to enjoy walking around the Piazza as the Myrtleford Farmers' Market takes on an Italian feel.

Volunteers from the community are invited to come forward to help out, particularly on the Saturday.

La Fiera convenor, John Reynolds-Smith, said excitement was building the closer the weekend draws near.

"We’re thrilled to be back for the 17th year as La Fiera continues to grow, bringing new regional offerings and a full entertainment program to La Festa," Mr Reynolds-Smith said.

"Entertainment is at the heart of any festival, especially an Italian one and we aim to have something for everyone.

"On the main stage we have Siesta Cartel, Solo Antico, Top Shelf Duo, roaming artists and much more.

"In Jubilee Park we have the Children’s Hub with a full program proudly sponsored by Myrtleford & Bright Community Bank.

“Sustainability remains a key focus and after successfully introducing FOGO bins last year, we’re continuing to work with Myrtleford & District Landcare group to keep reducing our impact while delivering the best festival possible.”

La Festa on Saturday is a ticketed event with the official program and all other details on the website by 12 March.
