Tourism information goes mobile

MANSFIELD Shire Council launched its brand new Mobile Information Centre during the High Country Festival with it featuring prominently on the High St Median Strip across the long weekend.

Funded through the Council Assist grant from the Victorian Government, the trailer is fully fitted out with everything to service tourists and locals seeking information about the range of activities, businesses and offers throughout the shire.

The idea behind the trailer is to provide information to tourists in high traffic locations on what more the shire has to offer.

It will pop up again over the Christmas and New Year period around the lake, including areas at Jamieson and Merrijig.

Colleen Reynolds, who has been offering information in our region for more than 20 years from the Visitor Information Centre, said the reception to the Mobile Centre was fantastic for tourists and locals alike.

“Being able to bring the information to these large events is great and people definitely explored more of the shire because of it,” Ms Reynolds said.

On its debut the trailer serviced 165 people over three days and when asked if they would usually go to an information centre only 37 per cent of people responded yes.

The extra information provided to the additional 63 per cent of people who may not have explored further was a boost to the shire’s economy over the long weekend.
